Reps for Research

Reps for Research

For the past 8 years I have been hosting, participating, and organizing dozens of different fundraising events for The Smith Magenis Research Foundation.  And every event is special in its own unique way. These events serve numerous purposes for me.  First and foremost they help raise money for SMS Research which is so important to help improve the lives of individuals living with this rare genetic syndrome.  But in addition to that these events help raise awareness and serve to educate others about SMS and how it affects those that live with it and the families that care for it.  Lastly these events enable me to challenge myself, build strength, renew my hope, and inspire me to continue to persevere.  This year instead of hosting a big event I decided to keep things small and simple.  Something that I could literally throw myself into and rebuild my emotional and physical strength that has been taking a hit lately.  Caring and raising a special needs child can wear you out…Research, fundraising and awareness raising can deplete you…chronic care taking is exhausting.  The time seemed right for me to build myself back up again and the best way I know how to do that is through exercise…particularly a challenging one.  Starting may 1st thru May 17th I will start my day with a workout.  In honor of the 17th chromosome that is affected in SMS my workout will have 17 parts to it…17 days of 17 exercises including 17 reps of each for the duration of 17 minutes????????

My hope is that each morning as I start my day with this routine I will not only rebuild my stamina but I will also take those 17 minutes to rebuild my spirit.  Living Special Needs is a lifetime commitment and every now and again I have learned I need to step back and recharge, revitatilize, and renew myself so that I can keep going.

After years of exercising I have learned a thing or two along the way.  I have learned how important strength training is for your body and how vital it is for your body to maintain as much muscle mass as possible.  I have taken aspects of all the different training modalities I have engaged in through the years and created my own ass kicking workout and I have named it “SYDNEY”???? Starting May 1st I will post each day about my “SYDNEY” workout and how it’s going.  I would love it if you would all join me in my efforts.  Either by participating in the workout, or by creating your own unique challenge to help you reach your own goals, or by supporting me with a donation of any amount you feel comfortable with to The Smith Magenis ResearchFoundation.  On May 1st I will begin posting my fundraising page and some more info about my plans…stay tuned!!!

And thank you all for your continued support and encouragement for my effort to change and improve the lives of so many affected by this rare genetic syndrome????
